FAQs

What if I don't see the song I'm looking for?   Check our main website's, www.melbay.com, advance search

which includes a listing of all Mel Bay's songs.  Then contact us directly with your request or with any questions; This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

I like a song that I hear, but need to hear the entire song. How can I hear the all of the song?  Fill out the type of request

you are seeking under the “Request a Quote” section and include in the comment section that you would like to sample of the entire

song before proceeding with the request.

Do you ever grant gratis permissions?  It is very rare that we would grant a gratis permission. As the representative for our writers

it is our responsibility to collect and administer the appropriate fees that they are due for their work.

What does it mean if a fee is quoted on a “most favored nations” basis?  If we quoted a fee on a most favored nations basis,

it means that we would be entitled to a higher fee than we have quoted if you have agreed to pay another party a higher fee for a similar use.

I need permission to photo copy music. How do I get it?  Please submit your request using the “Print License” request option on

the licensing website. If the song you need to photo copy is not listed, then fill out the form and list the additional information in the

comments section.

I need music that is out of print. How do I get it?   Once a publication is out of print there are no more copies available through us,

the publisher. You may check with the artist through their website (if they have one) to see if they have any copies they would like to

sell. Or check other internet retail sites to see if anyone has a copy for sell.

What's the difference between a Synchronizations license and a Master Use license and why would I need both of

them for same song?  A Synchronizations license pertains to the licensing of the song and is generally owned and administered by

a publisher. The Master Use license pertains to the recording of a song and may be owned by a recording company. Mel Bay owns a

majority of our publishing and recording rights, therefore the Synchronizations license and the Master Use license will be administered by us.

I wish to make a recording of one of your songs. Which license do I need?   To make a recording of a Mel Bay song, please use

the form for a Mechanical License.
